Lennon Desktop Themes
***********************************************************************
Hello and welcome to my Lennon desktop themes for use with
Microsoft Plus or similar themes program. To install, simply unzip
using WinZip 6.2 or 6.3 to C:\ (if that is the letter of the drive your
Program Files\Plus!\Themes\ folder is on) DO NOT SPECIFY A PATH, (other
than the drive letter) THE FILE DESTINATIONS ARE SAVED IN THE ZIP AND
THE FILES WILL GO INTO THE PROPER LOCATIONS ON THEIR OWN. After unzip-
ping, you should have a "Lennon" folder in your themes folder, as well
as two theme files, "Lennon1 (high color)" and "Lennon2 (high color)."
To install, go into Desktop Themes in your Control Panel and select
either of these theme files.
Please note that these are high color themes--you must be run-
ning in the 16, 24 or 32-bit color mode to see the wallpapers as they
were meant to be seen. And while you're in your Display Properties,
please make sure the "show icons using all possible colors" box is
checked. I get a lot of e-mail from people (who don't read ReadMe
files) who can't see the wallpaper or icons because they're not in the
right mode.
These themes pay tribute to John's solo years--from 1970 to
1980. He really only recorded during about 5 1/2 short years of that
period, as he took five years off to raise his second son, Sean. I had
started to do a theme based on just the Imagine album, but decided to
do a couple of generic Lennon themes. The reasons for that were two-
fold: one, a lot more great songs to choose from, and two, I think
more people will be able to use and appreciate these themes, not just
Lennon super-fans.
The wallpapers were not made from paintings, rather they were
photographs (I scanned them from books) that I turned into paintings
using Adobe Photoshop, the Eye Candy plug-ins and my own drawing
skills. (I baked my Wacom tablet on these!) I think they look a lot
more dramatic and classy than the fairly low quality photos they once
were.
The sounds were sampled at the highest rates, and saved using
MSADPCM compression--if you have any of my other music themes, you know
that they will sound great before you even listen to them. The icons
and cursors are about half-original, half net stuff that I fixed up.
The animated cursors are my own creations.
I hope you can see that everything in these themes was done
with the utmost care and respect for John Lennon. It's just too bad
that he can't see that. But then again, maybe he can.
